The IWK Health Centre Board of Directors hosted their 2018/19 Annual General Meeting (AGM) today. The event shone a spotlight on the past year’s accomplishments and provided insight as to what the health centre will focus on in the coming year. The IWK Health Centre’s 2018/19 Report to the Community, Because it Matters, was released during the meeting and can be found at annualreport.iwk.nshealth.ca

“To achieve success, institutions like the IWK need to partner with the people and the communities we serve,” says Karen Hutt, Chair of the IWK Board of Directors. “One of the many things I have been so proud to be a part of during my time on this Board is that we have made sure we are not just leading alone. We are shaping the future of the IWK with the community.”

This year’s report shares a glimpse into a few of the areas in which the IWK has made great strides over the past 12 months. In the year ahead, the IWK is excited for the completion of another phase of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit redevelopment, the start of construction for a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as the new design for the Children’s Emergency Department.

Because it Matters also recognized the dedication, compassion and excellence of the IWK’s employees, physicians, volunteers and partners who work relentlessly and passionately to pursue a healthy future for women, children, youth and families.

“It’s no secret that the people who work at the IWK are special individuals,” says Dr. Krista Jangaard, President and CEO of the IWK Health Centre. “They continue to push the envelope, whether they work directly with patients and families, or are integral in supporting the work of those who do.”
