I am the I in IWK – Prasanna Kariyawansa

Posted by

Prasanna Kariyawansa is a Mental Health & Addictions Program Educator with Trauma Informed Care.

He was born in Sri Lanka and came to Canada in 1992, and started with the IWK as a casual in 1998. He’s been full time since 2000 and has been in his current position since December 2014.

“I like the fact that I get to support staff so they can continue to provide the excellent care for patients and families,” Kariyawansa says. “I know it sounds cliché, but it’s the truth.”

When he’s not at the IWK, Kariyawansa loves wilderness camping and photography.

“A little known fact about me is that my name means “pure/clear”. I know……..I am far from it. But I try!”
